Clark Spiritual Growth Initiative Screenagers Workshop

The Clark Spiritual Growth Initiative of First Presbyterian Church of Lynchburg (Virginia) presents a screening of the documentary SCREENAGERS: Growing Up in the Digital Age followed by a professional panel discussion featuring three pastors, a pediatrician, and a Lynchburg City Councilman.

Saturday, March 9
9:00am - 12:30pm

We live in a world filled with screens.  SCREENAGERS: Growing Up in the Digital Age was developed to help parents and families understand more of the impact these digital devices are having on young people and support the development of solutions to tackle the growing use of screens. The SCREENAGERS team shares a synopsis of the documentary (trailer above): "Are you watching kids scroll through life, with their rapid-fire thumbs and a six-second attention span? Physician and filmmaker Delaney Ruston saw that happening with her own kids which started her on a quest to delve into how it might affect their development. Through poignant, and unexpectedly funny stories, along with surprising insights from authors, psychologists, and brain scientists, SCREENAGERS reveals how tech time impacts kids’ development and also offers solutions on how adults can empower their kids to best navigate the digital world to find balance."

FREE Admission.  Space is limited.
Light refreshments will be provided.

Clark Spiritual Growth Initiative History

The Clark family came to Lynchburg, VA in 1974 so that Joe could join Max Feinman in his ENT practice.  After looking at several churches, they chose First Presbyterian and have been nourished by this loving church family ever since.  The church has been instrumental in the spiritual growth of their sons Evan and Spencer, as well as the nurture of Elinor Ann’s parents, Elinor and Chuck Clayton, and Joe’s mother, Ethel Clark.

The Clark Spiritual Growth Initiative was established in 2018 by Elinor Ann and Joe Clark in loving gratitude for the way First Presbyterian has encouraged their family for the last 50 years. The Initiative supports an annual program with the purpose of promoting unique congregational, spiritual, and family growth opportunities through insightful and meaningful educational experiences. Annually, the Education Initiative works with staff to host an event that encourages and promotes this purpose with a narrowed focus on individual spiritual growth, development of the Christian family, inspirational education, a positive and Christian experience for youth, and/or music resources in support of spiritual growth.

Previous Clark Spiritual Growth Initiative Events have included a Sabbath Workshop with Rev. Carrie Tuttle (2019) and a Sabbath Retreat at Massanetta Springs Conference Center (2020).
