Ministry of Music

Would you like to be part of a joyful, nurturing family that not only makes music but grows spiritually? And would you want your children to have the same experience? Opportunities abound for singers and instrumentalists who wish to "love and serve the Lord" as well as improve both their musical understanding and vocal ability. This Christ-centered ministry seeks to help people realize their musical potential, grow in faith and musical understanding, and be supported by other musicians in a caring environment. Check out the opportunities below to see where you might fit in. If you desire more information or want to become involved in some other way, feel free to contact Raymond Weidner at 434-384-6231 or through e-mail at ray@fpcly.org.

Youth Ensemble

Open to youth in middle and high school this ensemble will also take advantage of those with instrumental skills as well. Rehearsals: TBA

Children's Choir
Open to all children in grades 1 through 5. Designed as a two semester program, this choir prepares music for the Christmas and Easter seasons in addition to presenting anthems periodically throughout the year on Sunday mornings. This program helps children grow in their spiritual understanding, learn Biblical life skills in a rehearsal setting, and develop vocal skills through group voice training. The schedule will accommodate those who are active in extra-curricular activities. Rehearsals: Wednesday afternoons at 4:30 in the Choir Room from November to Palm Sunday.

Summer Choir
From Memorial Day weekend through Labor Day, the Summer Choir is open to all adults wishing to sing on a week-by-week basis. The Choir rehearses an easy anthem at 10:15 on Sunday mornings, and provides musical leadership at the 11:00 service. This is a great opportunity for those who cannot participate in the Chancel Choir on a regular basis because of scheduling conflicts, or who simply want to try the choral experience out. Simply show up on Sunday mornings, and you will be guided through the morning's process.
