National and World Missions
Our church promotes efforts beyond our community to spread the Word of God, to help and encourage those in need, and to respond to crises. We reach out in missions in the USA and worldwide, including Central Africa (Malawi), India, Eastern Europe, South America, and Caribbean areas. We support church worship, Bible instruction, higher education for seminarians including minority students, elementary and secondary schools and teaching resources, care of orphaned children and refugees, and clean water wells for remote villages. We support medical professionals and clinics. We
focus on areas where Presbyterian Church mission workers and volunteers are in close contact with the people served. All of these efforts are coordinated by our National and World Missions Committee. Please call Joyce Bailey at 434-384-8527 with any questions concerning this committee or its work. 2009 Mission Work Trip
Read about the Seventh Annual Malawi Mission Trip, May-June 2009. A volunteer mission work team sponsored by First Presbyterian Church worked on church, school, medical and community health projects with congregations in the Synod of Livingstonia this year. The 2009 team included six from our church, two from Westminster PC, and four from Covenant PC (Roanoke).
